The Stand-up Competition is part of the Sacramento Comedy Festival and we are giving away over $2000 in prize money. The Competition and consists of three stages- Preliminary, Semi-Final and the Finals. There are four Preliminary rounds consisting of 10 comedians from around the country. Comedians perform 5 minutes of material in their Preliminary round. Comedians are scored by three independent Judges. The comedians with the top two scores in each preliminary round move on to the Semi-Finals.
In the Semi-Finals comedians must perform 5 minutes of material that is different from the set in their Preliminary Round. The comedians with the top four scores in the Semi-Finals advance to the Finals. In the Finals comedians perform 8 minutes of any material they choose. Cash prizes will be determined by Judges scores. The Grand Prize is $1000. $750 for second place. $500 for third place. $250 for fourth place. We all make mistakes. Even us. So, if you were not selected this year you have a second chance to be in the Competition. We will be selecting Wild Cards for the competition during two Open Mics.
In each stage of the Stand-up Competition comedians are scored, by three independent judges, from 1-10 in three categories: Audience Reaction, Originality, and Stage Presence. The category scores from each judge are added together and averaged with the other two judges. In the event of a tie the comedian with the highest average Audience Reaction scores will win- followed by Originality and Stage Presence.
